Calling All Turkey Lovers! {Disguise the Turkey Project}

November is one of my favorite months. The fall is filled with so many fun classroom activities that I can't seem to get enough of! For the past several years, this Disguise the Turkey Project has been one of my go to fall projects that the kids just eat up and I love!

I start by reading the story, Turkey Trouble, where a poor little turkey does not want to get eaten for Thanksgiving. Throughout the story, the students see the turkey dressing up in different disguises to hide from the farmer who is trying to cook him for dinner.

I then explain that the project we will be doing will be to dress up a regular turkey to escape being eaten for Thanksgiving! There are multiple extensions in this unit, such as graphic organizers, a writing activity, and a math connection that you can use with your class when the turkeys come back!
I also like using these example cards! The kids laugh the whole time when they see turkeys dressed up in different disguises! This also helps to give them some ideas!

Check out some of these all star turkeys that came back this year!

I don't give many guidelines with home to disguise the turkeys. I love how this student thought outside inside of the box and turned his turkey into a snowman!

Here's a closer look at the writing part of the project. The graphic organizer helps the students to think back to the steps of putting the disguise together and then write about how they kept their turkey safe!

I hope you love this idea as much as I do! It's always so fun to do for Thanksgiving!
