Books Teachers Love {December}

Hey friends! It's that of the month again! I am so in love with being part of this group where some teacher friends and I are sharing books that we love for the upcoming month. Today we are helping you to plan for December, by sharing a book that we love and are even having a giveaway for one lucky winner to win copies of four books that we love!

I just love the book, Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester! This is such a beautiful story about how Tacky's friends find him weird until Tacky ends up saving the day! It's really a story of acceptance, and in my classroom, I always use any time I can get to build our classroom family! This is a seasonal story that can gives a great message to little ones about how to be kind to everyone, no matter what differences we may have! What's better than that?

I use this story as a read aloud, and it's just that! Sometimes I just adore story time where we can talk about the message of the story. There aren't any fancy worksheets to prove what they know. I ask questions and we have a class discussion. We spend 10 to 15 minutes talking about our classroom family and how to make it better. I have found these conversations have helped with behavior management and are hopefully making a lasting impression on my students!
