Sleepypod Interview, Review & Giveaway

Ya'll know I am obsessed with my husky, Shilah, so much so, that she is our class mascott. In the beginning of the year, I had to explain to my students why she takes up some of the main real estate in our room. I'm just kidding, I have a ton of anchor charts hanging. For every picture of Shilah, there are at least three anchor charts. That's a good ratio, right?

I have had so many sweet comments from teachers who stop by my blog and insta {because she really takes up that real estate!} that it sparked an idea! I reached out to Sleepypod and asked if my class could come up with a few interview questions because in social studies, we spend a good amount of time covering economics. This unit covers consumers and producers and we were able to come up with a few questions to ask the makers over at Sleepypod.

My class came up with five questions to ask Michael Leung and Melony Lee, the co-founders of Sleepypod. Michael and Melony were also gracious enough to send Shilah and her sister a free harness so that we could review the Clickit Sport and hold a giveaway for my fans! How AWESOME is that?!

Let's start with the Q&A:

1. What was the name of your Elementary School?
Michael: Sutro Elementary in San Francisco, California
Melony: Min Sheng Primary School in Taipei, Taiwan

2. Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?
Michael & Melony: Rawl Rawl. She is a beautiful Bengal cat. She looks like a little leopard. She is a really sweet kitty that follows us around the house. Her favorite games are kicking mini soccer balls around, fetch and red light green light. She always travels with us wherever we go and she has flown in airplanes more than 30 times already. We call her travel kitty sometimes.

3. What is your favorite breed of dog?
Michael: Akita. I had an Akita many years ago and she was very affectionate and intelligent.
Melony: Beagle. I have a special place in my heart for Beagles.

4. What made you want to design gear for pets?
Michael & Melony: When Rawl Rawl was adopted we had to go on many trips so we needed a bed for her that would travel wherever we went. We couldn't find a suitable product so we designed the original Sleepypod for her out of necessity. After the first product, the mobile pet bed, we have designed many other products to improve the lives of pets and their families.

5. What is your favorite part of your job?
Michael & Melony: We love designing products that make a difference in the lives of pets and people. Our favorite part of our job is seeing others enjoy our creations and hearing the stories of how our safety products saved pets lives in automobile accidents.

Time for the review!

The Clickit Sport is Sleepypod's next generation dog safety harness. I found it extremely light and easy to put on our huskies. The designers over at Sleepypod dedicated 2 and 1/2 years to designing and testing this model.
We then took the Clickit Sport to the car. Some of the features that I found really made this product stand out were the infinity loop continuous webbing system, three point contact design, and the fact that the girls really felt comfortable in it.
Shilah was able to get comfortable and spread out on the back seat, while still be safely secured in the car. Since the Clickit Sport can also be used as a walking harness, the reflector strips are another added layer of protectiong to keep dogs safe.
I am happy to have found a product that was designed with safety as a top priority, and feel at ease knowing my dogs are comfortable wearing the harness.
You can check out the video with Michael Leung, Introducing the Clickit Sport below.
The Clickit Sport is the first and only dog harness in the industry to be certified by the Independent Pet Safety Research Institution, the Center For Pet Safety. In other words, you can rest assured knowing that your pet is just as safe as you are while riding in the car!

  3. What size did you order for your pup? And what are her measurements/weight? My goldendoodle weighs just over 50 lbs but measures right in the medium size...which is only rated for up to 45 lbs. :-/

  6. I notice you don't have any pictures of your dogs buckled in to seatbelts in the car. Did you find that process as awkward as I did? In the photo of the dogs standing, the reflective side straps that the seatbelt threads through are really low on their sides, which is how they fit on my own dogs. Getting the seatbelt under one strap, up over the back, and back under the other was difficult and looked really uncomfortable. When I look at the recently posted instructional video, though, the straps on the model dog are up near his back, and it seems to fit better. Even though measurements placed our digs as small (~22lb shibas), I'm thinking the medium may work better. Hopefully we're right!

@Abigail Shepard, I would definitely size up for your goldendoodle. Based on my experience, I think it's definitely better to be on the small side of a size than the upper limit.
