You Oughta Know About...

Today I'm linking up with Mrs. McClain from Buzzing with Mrs. McClain for the monthly You Oughta Know blog hop! We'll be sharing teaching tips & advice, websites, products, or anything else teachers just oughta know!

There is a whole lineup of teachers that would love to share their {lovely} finds with you.

At the end of my post, you'll be able to view the list!

Now I think you oughta know about one of my all-time
favorite storybook websites... Storyline Online.

Here are the 5 top reasons why I love & You Oughta Know
about StoryLine:

Reason 1:
StoryLine is F.R.E.E!

You can choose from a variety of well known authors like Kevin Henkes & David Shannon for free! Yes, I said, Free!

Reason 2:
There is no sign up required!

Have you ever felt like there are so many terrific websites but not enough time to go through the username and password registration?

Don't fret! StoryLine does not require any type of login info! YAY!
How easy is that?!

All you have to do is go to the website and choose by title, author, or reader...

Like this:

Reason 3:
The stories are read aloud!

Once you choose a story, simply click on it and play it!
I usually play the stories on my SmartBoard but you could even have your students listen to a story on a computer or device by themselves.

Betty White reads, Harry the Dirty Dog.

Reason 4:
There are activity guides for the stories!

In my classroom I make sure that I am reading stories for a purpose which go along with the skills or units that I am teaching.

From time to time I browse StoryLine & the activity guides to see how the stories tie into what I am teaching at the time.

Here's a portion of the 1st page of the guide for Harry the Dirty Dog.

Reason 5:
You can turn on Closed Captioning for students to read along!

I am a HUGE fan of turning on the closed captioning so the students can see the words and read along with the author.

It's simple! Just hit the "CC" button on the bottom of the video!
And, there you have it! Text for your students to read!
